Coach Broos proud of Bafana's performance: 'Not only the win, also the way we won'

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos was delighted with his side's performance as they came back from a goal down to dispatch Mozambique 2-1 at Mbombela Stadium on Thursday evening. 

Bafana started brightly but it was the visitors who took an early lead through Nelson Divrassone in the 14th minute. It came after some poor defending from the Bafana backline.

However, Bafana quickly took control of the game and punished Mozambique through a quick-fire second half brace from the US-based striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

While Broos was delighted with the win, he was encouraged more by the performance of his players, who dominated from the first minute until the last. 

"It's not only the win it's also the way we won," Broos told reporters.  

"I think we played a very good game. We [made] a little mistake at the beginning of the game, so it was 1-0 for Mozambique. But we controlled the game from the first until last minute."

Despite the dominant performance from Bafana, Broos was concerned about the subpar defending from his side, highlighting goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams, who played a huge part in Mozambique's opener.

"Ronwen (Williams) a few times, and I'm not used to that from him, because when there is a 'keeper who is strong with his feet, it's Ronwen, and twice he did dangerous things. Those were the only moments... except the ball on the post... that I can think of an opportunity for Mozambique."   

Bafana dominated the midfield battle throughout the game, giving them a platform for a few eye-catching combinations and Broos admitted that he was proud of the players and praised them for following his instructions.
