Co Tyrone referee makes history at Women's Under 17 Euro finals

A County Tyrone referee has made history by becoming the first female referee from Northern Ireland to officiate at a major UEFA tournament.

Vikki Finlay is taking part in this month's Women's Under 17 Euro finals which are being held in Bosnia and Herzegovina from May 3-15.

Vikki, who hails from Killen near Castlederg, is one of eight assistant referees who have been chosen to officiate at the finals.

And on Tuesday night she ran the line at the Norway v Spain match at the Gradski Stadion in Mostar.

Trevor Moutray, Head of Refereeing at the Irish Football Association, said: “This is the first time that an Irish FA female match official has been appointed to a UEFA final tournament.

"It’s something to be proud of and a great good news story for female match officials here.”

The Women’s Under-17 Euros returned this year after being cancelled for the last two seasons due to Covid.

The teams in this year’s tournament include hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina, holders Germany, Denmark, Netherlands who make up Group A.

Group B is made up of France, Spain, Norway and Finland.
