Clyde to terminate David Goodwillie's loan deal after pressure from North Lanarkshire Council

Clyde have announced they are in discussions to terminate David Goodwillie's loan deal from Raith Rovers - just hours after North Lanarkshire Council said the player is banned from entering their home ground at Broadwood Stadium.

North Lanarkshire Council operate Broadwood and released a statement earlier warning that the player would not be allowed in the ground under any circumstances and should he do so, it would be considered a breach of contract which would lead to immediate termination of the current lease.

It was also stated that the club's lease will not be renewed when it expires in May 2023, leaving the Bully Wee with 14 months to find a new home ground.

The council's hardline stance has now forced Clyde's hand and the club has announced they are now in discussions with Raith Rovers over terminating the loan deal, which had been agreed until the end of the season.

It's a another twist in the now month-long saga, which was sparked when Goodwillie agreed a permanent transfer to the Kirkcaldy club on transfer deadline day.

Goodwillie, who was ruled a rapist in a civil court case in 2017, has already been told he will not play for Raith Rovers following the backlash from fans and financial backers, including author Val McDermid. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also urged the club to reconsider the decision before the Raith board eventually admitted "they got it wrong" in signing the striker.

A short statement by Clyde read: "The club are tonight in the process of terminating the loan agreement with Raith Rovers for David Goodwillie."
