Clyde terminate David Goodwillie loan as club announce talks over Raith Rovers return

Clyde have announced they have started talks with Raith Rovers to terminate David Goodwillie's loan.

The Broadwood club brought their former captain back after his controversial switch to Raith ended with a dramatic U-turn from the Fife club.

Goodwillie was found guilty of rape by a civil court judge in 2017 and there was significant backlash when he returned to Clyde on loan to the end of the season.

Clyde Ladies severed ties and North Lanarkshire Council, who own Broadwood, told the League Two club they would be ending their agreement at the end of the 2022/23 season.

That came after a mass walkout at Raith following his January signing with sponsor Val McDermid pulling out. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, meanwhile, criticised both his move to Kirkcaldy and his return to Clyde.

They also informed them that it would be taken as a breach of contract if Goodwillie entered the ground at any point - threatening them with immediate eviction if he ever played for the club at home.

And the League Two club have bowed to the pressure as a brief statement reads: "The club are tonight in the process of terminating the loan agreement with Raith Rovers for David Goodwillie."

32-year-old Goodwillie 95 goals in 151 games for Clyde previously but it appears he has played his final game.
