Clyde name new boss as defender steps up to top role

Clyde have appointed defender Brian McLean as head coach, as they prepare for life in League Two.

The 38-year-old from East Kilbride replaces Jim Duffy, who has been moved 'upstairs' into a director of football role.

McLean joined Clyde last season and became club captain, before taking on an additional coach role.

Enjoying a lengthy playing career in Scotland with clubs including Motherwell, Hibs and Dundee United, McLean has also played in England, Iceland and Singapore, gained an international cap for Northern Ireland, and holds a UEFA 'A' coaching licence.

He told the club's website: "I am excited and grateful to both the club and Jim for this opportunity to be the head coach of Clyde Football Club.

"It is a new chapter for myself as well as the club. It's something I have been working towards and I can't wait to get started."

Director of football Jim Duffy said: "Brian commands respect in the dressing room and has natural leadership qualities.

"He has aspirations for a coaching career and I'm sure he will have a positive influence on a new crop of players, over the course of the new season."
