Clyde hitting Stenhousemuir for six gives us belief, says Bully Wee hero

Martin Rennie insists Clyde can avoid relegation from League Two after his side stunned runaway leaders Stenhousemuir with a 6-1 thumping at Ochilview.

That result, coupled with second-bottom Stranraer’s defeat at Dumbarton, cut the gap at the bottom of the table to five points, though the Blues have a game in hand.

Euan O’Reilly gave Stenny the lead in 24 minutes, but goals from Liam Scullion and Jordan Allan had Clyde 2-1 ahead after 32 minutes.

Rennie bagged a double in 49 and 55 minutes, with Cammy Ballantyne adding a fifth three minutes later.

Allan bagged his second and Clyde’s sixth with 19 minutes left to complete the rout.

Rennie, who took his season’s tally to 12, says Clyde have set the standard they must maintain over their remaining 10 games, starting with the visit of third-bottom Elgin City on Saturday

He said: “We’re confident we can stay up.

“We have to take it one game at a time, because we had a good win at Dumbarton but then against Forfar on Tuesday [2-0 defeat] we were flat and our standards weren’t great.

“So, after this we need to rest up and do the right thing this week.

“We were clinical through the team, and I think that was the difference.

“It’s the standard that we’ve set ourselves now.

“Throughout the club, but mainly the players, standards have not been high enough, and it can take a while for that to change.

“We’ve consciously tried to change that, and our standards have been better, but it takes time for results to come around.

“We just need to maintain that.”

Boss Ian McCall said: “We were clinical.

“This was a step in the right direction, and hopefully it’s a springboard.

“But it’s one step. We have to take the next one, now.”
