Clyde confirm David Goodwillie signing, 'enabling him to continue his career'

Clyde have confirmed the signing of striker David Goodwillie on a loan deal from Raith Rovers for the rest of this season.

It is expected that the 32-year-old will sign permanently in the summer.

Goodwillie signed for Raith Rovers in a two-and-a-half year deal in a January transfer deadline-beating move, but it was met with a furious backlash because a civil court had found him guilty of rape in 2017.

Several officials and volunteers walked out of the Kirkcaldy club, including the crime writer Val McDermid, who had provided a huge source of income and support.

Goodwillie had signed a two-and-a-half year deal, with a fee paid to Clyde believed to have been around £50,000, but it was declared that he would never play for Raith Rovers, and the contract renegotiated.

It was rumoured earlier today that Goodwillie would rejoin Clyde, and the Broadwood club have confirmed this in a statement.

It read: "Following an initial approach by Raith Rovers, and subsequent agreement between the two clubs, we can confirm that David Goodwillie has returned to Broadwood on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season.

"This enables David to return to first team activities including training and playing and, in doing so, continue his career in football at the current time."
