Clyde boss Ian McCall sets League Two target as he plots great escape

Clyde boss Ian McCall has targeted at least four wins in their next six games as he bids to steer them to League Two safety.

The Bully Wee boosted their survival hopes while denting Bonnyrigg Rose’s, after fighting back to a vital 2-1 win at New Dundas Park on Saturday.

Smart Osadolar put the hosts ahead after just 40 seconds, but Jordan Allan headed the Bully Wee level in 56 minutes, and hit a winner with 20 minutes left.

Clyde are still bottom of the pile, but have reduced the gap to three points on both second-placed Stranraer, and Bonnyrigg in eighth, as they prepare to host The Spartans on Saturday.

They follow that up with a visit to Peterhead, host Stranraer and travel to Dumbarton on April 13.

Clyde then host Stenhousemuir and East Fife in a home double header, before their final game of the league season at Elgin City on May 4.

And McCall says avoiding the Pyramid play-off would be “very, very special”.

He said: “We didn’t want to get a reputation as a ‘soft touch’ team because we’ve gone to Elgin, Stranraer, and some other difficult pitches and not done well.

“But if you had asked six games ago if I’d have been happy to win four of them, I would have been absolutely thrilled.

“The target is to win four of the next six now, if not better than that.

“To lose a goal in 40 seconds was crazy, and for 10 or 15 minutes we were under pressure, but I thought from then on we dominated the game.

“Their goalkeeper has made a couple of unbelievable saves from Jordan Allan, who is invaluable – his goals speak for themselves.

“There’s no denying it’s a big result – that’s us three points behind two teams now, with seven to go, so we just need to keep going.”
