Clyde boss Ian McCall looking to add to his squad as they prepare for cup clash

Clyde boss Ian McCall is looking for one more attacking player, as he prepares his side for their Premier Sports Cup Group G opener at Edinburgh City tonight.

McCall says his squad is taking shape, but he wants more firepower, and could look to the loan market to boost his ranks.

Clyde take on League Two side Edinburgh at Meadowbank on Wednesday night, before hosting Motherwell on Saturday as they continue Group G.

The Bully Wee then visit Partick Thistle next Tuesday, before concluding their group at home to Montrose on July 27.

McCall said: “We’re looking to add one more player straight away, hopefully in the next few days, and if we need to flesh things out or get players in we’ve still got quite a lot of loans left, so we’re happy with where we are.

“In the forward areas, wide or through the middle, that’s what we’re looking at.”

McCall expects a tough test against City at Meadowbank and says the Premier Sports Cup is a competition he enjoys.

He said: “Every game we play will be tough. I’ve not been through to this ground for many years, I think I played on it when it was a grass pitch in the early 80s for Queen’s Park!

“All the boys are looking forward to it, because as much as you try to get stuff out of pre-season games, this is the real competitive stuff.

“I’ve always tried to take these games very seriously to try and progress, albeit it will be very hard with the group we’re in, but everybody is really keen to do well and looking forward to it.

“Motherwell are a Premiership team, with a good young manager, so we’ll give it our best shot, but all eyes are really on Wednesday.”

Clyde warmed up for the competition with a 5-2 friendly win over Lowland League side Civil Service Strollers last weekend.
