Clyde boss accuses players of 'weak mentality' after Peterhead draw

Clyde boss Danny Lennon accused his side of having a weak mentality as they threw three points away against Peterhead.

Ross Cunningham had the Bully Wee seemingly home and dry with a double inside 19 minutes at New Douglas Park.

But within 10 minutes of those, Peterhead were level through Ola Adeyemo and Conor O’Keefe.

Cunningham passed up the chance of a hat-trick when his 52nd minute penalty was saved by Jack Newman before Clyde’s Jordan Allan was shown a second yellow card in 62 minutes for a clash with the keeper.

Lennon said: “We had the three points at one stage.

“We scored a couple of fantastic goals – particularly a wonderful second finish from Rossco – but I was so disappointed when we went 2-0 up, because I felt our foot came of it slightly.

“That’s a weak mentality, and something we’ve got to collectively improve on.

“We had an opportunity to deal with the ball leading up to Peterhead’s first goal and we took too many touches, trying to be clever.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to be a proper defender and defend.

“For their second one they got a wee break.

“The game goes back level, and once it comes into that stage you see more energy, a different mentality to us again, we go and create, we’re hungry again.

“That’s the biggest disappointment for me, because we had the game won, we should have held onto it, and then we’ve had to then come in at half-time and go and win it all again.”

Despite their second-half penalty, Lennon felt referee Alan Newlands made too many big calls against his side.

He said: “Going into the second half, could you imagine you’re going to get everything, in terms of goal-scoring opportunities, again?
