'Clubs like Liverpool' - Jurgen Klopp backed over key rule change by former Premier League manager
Jurgen Klopp has been given the support of a former Premier League manager over his view on a key rule.
The Liverpool boss is often rather outspoken about the need for five substitutions to be reintroduced into the English top flight.
Klopp’s most recent comments about that subject came in his press conference before Liverpool’s clash with Inter Milan this week.
The Champions League allows clubs to use five substitutions, but the Premier League does not, and it’s something Klopp wants to see changed.
“If we can make changes, we will do that,” said Klopp on Monday. “If it's not, it's not. It's essential that we go again for the five subs.
“In one competition we don't have that. It makes so much difference.
“I don't see why it takes so long to understand that. The Premier League have to save their top players as well. It's not an advantage.”
Now former Premier League manager Alex McLeish has explained why he thinks Klopp is right with his five substitutions argument.
“It’s something we have discussed in the past,” McLeish told Football Insider .
“The players really are playing loads and loads of games, especially clubs like Liverpool in the Champions League. I get that argument from Klopp.
