'Closer to Europe than relegation' - Newcastle United supporters react to Crystal Palace victory

Newcastle United fans were ecstatic at the full-time whistle as their side ground out a sixth straight home win in the Premier League. Miguel Almiron's superb opener proved the difference as the Magpies climbed up to 11th.

Sir Bobby Robson was in the dugout when United last recorded six wins in a row at St James' Park - highlighting just how dramatic the turnaround has been under Eddie Howe. A valiant Newcastle backline dug in deep to stave off the Crystal Palace onslaught late on, with the win moving them onto the symbolic total of 40 points.

Toon fans were quick to express their joy at the result.

@AlCraig90: As if we’ve got 40 points man. The job he’s done has been spectacular!

@AngelNUFC: Six wins in a row at home, amazing! The team and coaches have done amazing work. Happy for Miggy with his goal.

@KevinKpcollins: Six home wins in a row, safety now assured, what a turn around by Eddie Howe's Black and White Army.

@Jason_Mag: Bring on Champions League next season!

@davidtaylorHG1: Nobody would have imagined this just four months ago. Six home wins in a row, 40 points, playing great football, and hard to beat. After 14 miserable Mike Ashley years, this is like a dream. Howe and his team have done a magnificent job and deserve all the plaudits coming their way.

@mickquinn9: Get in lads. Closer to a European spot than relegation place now. What a job Eddie Howe and his team have done!
