Clint Boon on why he's quitting radio after 28 years

Manchester music legend Clint Boon sent shockwaves across the city after announcing live on air he is to leave his popular XS Manchester radio show on Monday. Fans were gutted to hear he is bringing to an end a radio career spanning 28 years broadcasting to the north west.

Inspiral Carpets star Clint explained on air that he wants to "focus on some other stuff going on in my life" to listeners. Oldham-raised Clint, 64, has now confirmed in full the reasons for his departure.

Following the on-air announcement shortly after the start of his drive time show, Clint made a full statement on his social media pages. He has shared that the newly reunited Inspirals have big plans for 2024, he has a new DJ residency to come in January, as well as his own plans to progress a movie.

He said: "After 28 years of being a radio presenter (the last 20 years doing five and six days a week), I’ve decided to step away from this amazing thing to focus on some of the other stuff going on in my life.

"My work in the world of radio has given me a sense of stability and security which I’ve never experienced in any other aspect of my career. Being in a band, being a club DJ… the consistency isn’t always there.

"Living on the edge (financially) is the norm. Radio gave me something solid to focus on in the centre of all the other crazy stuff I’ve done along the way.
