Claressa Shields rues inability to fight Katie Taylor or Amanda Serrano

Claressa Shields revealed she feels unchallenged in her weight class as she watched Katie Taylor defeat Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

Billed as the biggest women’s boxing match in history, the bout between Taylor and Serrano truly lived up to expectation.

It was the first time female boxers were given the headline slot at Madison Square Garden, and more than 19,100 raucous fans packed out the iconic venue.

Taylor emerged triumphant in a close encounter, keeping hold of her lightweight titles after defeating her Puerto Rican opponent by split decision.

Shields appeared on DAZN as a pundit after the match, and the American revealed her frustration about fighting in a different weight class to Taylor and Serrano.

“I would love to fight in a place like this, in half the atmosphere that it had tonight,” she said. “But I really don’t think, with my skill set, that I have somebody that can challenge me in that way.

“The only thing that will happen is if I was to make 140 [pounds] and fight against Katie Taylor or Amanda Serrano. That’s the only big fight I would have. But I’m telling you now I can’t make 140.”

Shields is scheduled to fight Savannah Marshall, who has held the WBO female middleweight title since 2020, in June or July.
