Clarence Seedorf delivers gutted Celtic pundits brutal truth over Bayern Munich heartbreak

Clarence Seedorf reckons Celtic dropped too deep in the final seconds of the heartbreaking draw with Bayern Munich.

After taking the lead through Nicolas Kuhn, Alphonso Davies was in the right position at the perfect moment as Cameron Carter-Vickers thumped his clearance off the forward and into Kasper Schmeichel's net in injury time to give the Bundesliga giants the goal they needed to send the Scottish Premiership champions out of Europe's elite competition in a 3-2 aggregate defeat. It was an impressive display at the Allianz Arena with Brendan Rodgers's side coming within touching distance of dishing out Bayern's first defeat at home in the Champions League in four years - but in the end the Hoops crashed out at the knockout stage.

Speaking to Prime Video, Alan Shearer on co-commentary reckoned that Brendan Rodgers' side deserved extra-time: “They have pushed them all the way - they really have - and they will deserve all the credit they get but that doesn’t mean anything when you are not going through. I thought they deserved at least another 30 minutes to push them that little bit harder - but in this ground the fans stuck with the team and they got their reward, albeit very late.”

Gutted former Celtic hero Neil Lennon added post match: "They got the goal they deserved and defended heroically. They reacted well to the goal, and piled on the pressure, but the least that Celtic deserved was to go into extra-time. I don't think Brendan could have got any more out of the players at his disposal. He has got to be so proud, but it's bittersweet."

Martin O'Neill added: "There was no doubt about it - the fans here were nervous. But the Bayern players were very nervous about their approach to the game.
