Ciaran Kilduff named new Dundalk boss

Ciaran Kilduff has been appointed the new manager of Dundalk FC.

Kilduff stepped down as Athlone Town's women's boss last month after leading them to an FAI Cup win and a first ever league title.

He announced his resignation in the aftermatch of missing out on the double at the hands of Shelbourne, but his time there was viewed as a huge success.

The Lilywhites have moved quickly to recruit their former striker.

He takes over from Jon Daly following their relegation to the First Division.

Kilduff's return to the club will go down with the Oriel Park faithful, who have fond memories of his role in their memorable 2016 Europa League campaign.

Kilduff scored famous goals against AZ Alkmaar and Maccabi Tel Aviv as Stephen Kenny's men broke new ground for Irish clubs in Europe.

Now, he's tasked with trying to galvanise them from the dugout after what has been a wretched year.
