Ciaran Clark pens one-year deal with Stoke City

Republic of Ireland defender Ciaran Clark has penned a one-year deal with Championship side Stoke City.

Clark helped Sheffield United to promotion to the Premier League last season when on loan from Newcastle United.

The 34-year-old's contract expired at the Magpies last June, and he's been hunting for a new club since.

Clark, who has 36 caps for Ireland, could feature in the Potters' next league game against Sunderland on Saturday week.

He'll have a couple of compatriots for company at Stoke, with Enda Stevens and Mark Travers also on the books. Stoke are 21st in the table, having lost seven of their first 11 matches.

"I’ve missed the feeling of being in the dressing room and preparing week-to-week for Saturdays," he told the club's website.

"I worked hard throughout pre-season and have kept myself in good shape since, so I am keen to get out there with the lads over the next couple of weeks, as the feeling of those sessions is something you can’t replicate alone.

"With the quality of players we have, if we find some consistency, I believe we can go on and have a good season."
