Ciara Mageean 11th as Faith Kipyegon stars in Diamond League final
Ciara Mageean finished 11th in the 1500m at the Prefontaine Classic, which serves as the Diamond League final, with Faith Kipyegon proving a class apart in Eugene
World record holder Kipyegon, who is the reigning Olympic and world champion champion, raced prominently behind pacemaker Laurie Barton from the gun and drew inexorably clear of the field from a long way out.
There was a yawning 20-metre gap back to her nearest pursuer at the bell, with her own world record looking under threat.
The Kenyan crossed the line in three minutes, 50.72 seconds which is the fifth-fastest time ever, with Ethiopia's Welteji Diribe second in a personal best of 3:53.93, while Britain's Laura Muir finished third in a season's best 3:55.16.
Portaferry star Mageean clocked 4:03.09, more than seven seconds outside the personal best she set behind Muir in Brussels last Friday.
