Chuffed Mapimpi 'bounces back' to help with Bok weakness: 'It's important for me to score'

His yellow card for sparking a mass brawl means he wasn't going to dwell too much about it, but Makazole Mapimpi still allowed himself a very brief pat on the back for "bouncing back" against the Wallabies last weekend.

The Springbok winger had a point to prove in Sydney after being denied a try in Adelaide by a now infamous tackle from opposite number Marika Koroibete, one that amounted to a shoulder charge that wasn't sanctioned.

However, Mapimpi gained sweet revenge in scoring South Africa's fourth and final try in the 24-8 win last Saturday, which turned sour when the heat of the moment got to him and he laid a hand on Koroibete's cheek.

"It's always a good feeling to do the thing what you're tasked to do on the field," he said from Buenos Aires, where the Boks are preparing for next weekend's meeting with Argentina.

"You want to score tries, especially after you haven't had your best game previously."

The dot-down means the 32-year-old flyer still maintains a decent strike rate of 22 tries from 31 Tests, but, more importantly, his score was an important marker in the Boks' battle to convert dominance into points.

The issue has been one of the side's biggest problems to date this season.

"It's very important that when I get the chance to round off a chance, I take it," said Mapimpi.

"There are a lot of players around me who create very good opportunities and it's up to me to make sure [they are rewarded]. We've seen how tight our games this year have been, so five points can be absolutely crucial.
