Christopher Jullien in cryptic Celtic transfer update before sharp U-turn over plane snap

Celtic defender Christopher Jullien was forced into a hasty U-turn after he deleted a snap of himself on a flight only one day after returning to training.

The £7m defender was a peripheral figure upon his comeback from a serious knee injury last season, as boss Ange Postecoglou stuck with Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers at the heart of his backline. Jullien was part of training on Monday but sparked speculation over his future after uploading an image of a flight coupled with an eyes emoji. It has since been deleted.

Mail Sport revealed last week the Frenchman was willing to fight for his future in Glasgow's east end as Celtic return to the Champions League for the first time in five seasons. Jullien was integral during his first season which ended in Treble glory, as he netted the winner in the League Cup Final against Rangers. But it's been an arduous road to recovery since he clattered into the post against Dundee United on Boxing Day in 2020.

Celtic have the aforementioned Starfelt and Carter-Vickers ahead of him in the pecking order, and homegrown Stephen Welsh was a more regular contributor in the final weeks of the season. Jullien appealed for more an appearance against Motherwell on the final day of the season but he did not feature.

The 29-year-old has one year remaining on his current deal at Parkhead.
