Christian Wade opens up on mission to 'empower youth' and his next step

Christian Wade is motivated by empowering youngsters, not making money, after announcing his first three-day training camp.

The former Wasps winger is getting reacquainted with rugby union after three years away pursuing a career in American Football after he launched 'Next Gen You', which will see the 31-year-old return to where his journey into professional sport began.

From August 2-4, Royal Grammar School High Wycombe will host the rugby camp event where the fourth-highest tryscorer in Premiership history will be passing on his expertise as a two-sport star.

He will do so by tapping into his experiences of 'rugby camps' as a youngster and offering something different for the 12 to 16-year-olds who sign up to his first venture into the coaching world.

"When I was growing up, there were camps connected to big-name players, but they were more third-party camps, using their name to provide a camp," Wade said. "And then maybe a player would turn up and give us an award or do a Q&A.

"For me, that's great, but that's more about trying to make money using commercial intellectual property. Whereas for me, as long as though the camps can run, that's all I care about. Because I want to empower the youth, I want to help to guide them, shape them to reach their maximum potential.

"Too often people say we're shaping the youth and molding them - but what are you molding them into? Because, they should be the ones to decide what they want to do. Give them the tools, resources and support network around to them to make their own decisions, to be able to be inspired and have aspirations for themselves. That's really what I want to drive through these camps in a massive way."
