Aston Villa are gearing up for what is set to be another busy transfer window this summer.

Steven Gerrard held meetings about the Villa's summer transfer plans with the club's recruitment staff over the March international break and plans have been drawn up ahead of the window opening in June. Reports suggest Villa are out to land some high profile names with Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma - who have both been linked with moves to Champions League clubs - said to be high up on the transfer wish list.

The likes of Luis Suarez and Allan Saint-Maximin have also been linked in recent weeks and months. But Gerrard has been clear about what he wants before the start of next season and that's more physicality and "stature" in his squad.

Villa have lost their last three games, which started with a 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium following a three-match winning run against Brighton, Southampton and Leeds United. After the defeat to West Ham, Gerrard highlighted where he wants to improve his squad.

Gerrard said: "We need more profile in our team, stature. Looking at both teams, there's a few areas where I thought West Ham had a bit more on than us. I don't think they did technically, in possession, creativity, but in terms of stature. How they defend, for example set plays and crosses, I think there was a gap today.
