Christian Horner suggests review may be needed into initial rain delay to Monaco GP
Christian Horner has said that a review could be needed after the start of the Monaco Grand Prix was postponed due to the weather.
The heavens began to open around 15 minutes before lights out in Monte-Carlo on Sunday, adding an extra dynamic to an already hugely challenging race for the 20 drivers.
That is what makes Formula 1 Formula 1, though, and it was a shame to see the start of the race pushed back as Race Control sent out the instruction that all teams needed to change their cars onto extreme wet tyres, on safety grounds.
There was a feeling that the race could have at least got going before the rain got particularly heavy, and Horner has suggested that the decision might at least need looking at:
“I think that needs a bit of a review because it was a little chaotic with tyres coming on the grid, off the grid,” said Horner.
“It is a busy enough grid here and it is always a little bit dangerous to try and pre-empt the weather.
“You could argue it both ways, you could say we’d have been better starting the race and then reacting to the downpour and either putting the safety car out or stopping the race, but I think it needs a bit of a review after this weekend.”
The race itself took around an hour to actually get going as a power outage made things even more delayed, but that ultimately is something that was out of Race Control’s hands.
The decision to try and dance around the weather, though, appears to be something that some of the teams want looking into.
