Christian Eriksen's agent slams Brentford fans' lack of sportsmanship
Christian Eriksen has been contacted by Brentford owner Matthew Benham to express the club’s regret after he was booed by sections of the home crowd during the Bees’ 4-0 win over Manchester United.
The Dane joined United in the summer when his short-term contract with Brentford expired, following a hugely successful return to English football.
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last year, and was given scant hope of a return to competitive football.
Yet when he joined Brentford, they gathered 22 points from the 10 matches he started, pulling well clear of relegation trouble.
The midfielder boasted five goal contributions in 11 Premier League outings for the Bees, as he revitalised Thomas Frank's side.
Benham is understood to have personally contacted Eriksen to apologise and make clear the club’s disappointment at the booing.
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots said: ‘I don’t think the reaction was the height of sportsmanship.
'The club did the right thing to react in this way, especially after the difference Christian made last season.’
Eriksen started the defeat at the Brentford Community Stadium in a midfield double pivot for Erik ten Hag's side, but struggled to make an impact on the game.
The Red Devils currently sit bottom of the Premier League table following defeats in their opening two games of the season.
