Christian Eriksen jokes about Brandon Williams 'connection' at Manchester United

Christian Eriksen has commented on his hilarious altercation with new Manchester United teammate Brandon Williams last season.

United made Eriksen their second signing of the summer earlier this month as they captured the elegant playmaker on a free transfer. The Dane left Brentford following the expiration of his short-term contract after he made a remarkable return to football in January.

At Euro 2020 last summer, Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a match with Finland after suffering a cardiac arrest. The 30-year-old's life, let alone his career, looked in peril but he heroically survived and made an emotional return to the field with the Bees, steering them towards Premier League survival with a string of classy displays.

Eriksen's comeback also led to one brilliant moment with United youngster Williams — who spent last season on loan at Norwich City. In a match between the Canaries and Brentford, Eriksen dragged down the left-back as he looked to make a break on the halfway line. Williams was naturally annoyed at the foul and after landing on top of his aggressor was ready to confront him, but as soon as he saw it was Eriksen — now a universally popular figure in football — his anger instantly evaporated and he hugged him instead.

The moment went viral on social media and it's one that Eriksen remembers. "[Laughs] What do we call that – a connection?!" he told United's in-house media when asked about how well he knows his new teammates, and Williams specifically.
