Christian Eriksen could help Manchester United replace something they'll lose this summer

Manchester United desperately need to strengthen their midfield options in the transfer window. Central midfield has been a problem position for years and that was even before a whole host of the club's options announced they would be leaving this summer.

The Athletic has reported that United have made an offer to Christian Eriksen. The Danish midfielder has impressed during his short spell at Brentford and this has caught the attention of Erik ten Hag - but it's also caught the attention of his former club Tottenham.

Eriksen's technical ability would be a welcome addition to United's midfield. But something that needs to be addressed perhaps even more urgently is the leadership void in the dressing room.

Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba will all leave the club for free when their contracts officially expire at the end of the month and all three were key leaders in the dressing room. The Athletic recently revealed that Pogba had an active role behind the scenes even this season, and he reportedly requested Cristiano Ronaldo be more constructive with his criticism of United's youngsters.

Though none of these players captained the side on a regular basis, they were well respected and when they spoke they were listened to. This is something that Eriksen can also offer.
