Chris Wilder heaps praise upon Paul Heckingbottom and Sheffield United ahead of Championship finale

Ex-Blades manager Chris Wilder reckons Paul Heckingbottom has done "a fabulous job" so far at Bramall Lane ahead of what could be a dramatic end to the Championship this weekend. Both Sheffield United and Wilder's Middlesbrough side are vying for a Championship play-off spot alongside Luton and Millwall.

At the moment, Luton sit fifth in the table, while Sheffield sit sixth, with Middlesborough and Millwall on the outside of the top six looking in. Luton have a game in hand on the other three, facing off against league leaders Fulham tonight. Should they win, then they will punch their ticket to the Championship play-offs, leaving the sixth and final spot up for grabs.

The final day of the season will see Middlesbrough take on Preston, Millwall face Bournemouth while Sheffield United welcome Fulham to Bramall Lane.

All the Blades have to do is beat Fulham, who could have the league title sown up if they best Luton in midweek, on the final day of the Championship to make the play-offs. Wilder said: "I think the biggest thing is that we are going into the 46th game of the season and our season is still alive.

“Paul [Heckingbottom] has taken over when Sheffield United were in that position and he’s done a fabulous job there with a really good group of players. Nathan (Jones) the same. It’s a brilliant achievement getting (Luton Town) in there. Obviously the teams above them in Huddersfield and Forest have had fabulous seasons. That’s taking out where Bournemouth and Fulham are.”
