Chris Wilder comments on Middlesbrough’s transfer plans

Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has revealed to Teesside Live that the club is already planning ahead of the summer transfer window.

The North East side were certainly busy last month as they sought to add extra quality and depth to their existing squad with the likes of Riley McGree, Folarin Balogun, Aaron Connolly and Neil Taylor all joining the club.

Meanwhile the likes of Lewis Wing, Marcus Browne, Hayden Coulson, Uche Ikpeazu, Dejan Stojanovic and Onel Hernandez all went the other way through the exit door.

Now Wilder has revealed that the club are already looking ahead to the next transfer window as he bids to shape the squad in his image moving forwards:

“That planning for the summer transfer window has already started – in fact, it started before transfer window one.

“We’re forever assessing and it is perhaps the biggest challenge and the biggest part of the job in terms of assessing who is going to be on the journey.”

There are set to be some players who will be out of contract at the Riverside Stadium come the summer, so Wilder will have decisions to make on their futures.

Whilst Boro will also oversee the return of a plethora of their loanees when they return from their respective spells away from the club.

The Verdict

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how many changes Wilder makes to his squad this summer as you could argue that a lot of the existing members of it have done well for him so far.

There will of course be some that he feels need to be moved on but inevitably his business will come down to what league they find themselves in at the end of May.

Big changes would be needed if they got into the Premier League and a revamp is also likely if they are to stay put ion the second tier.

It will
