Wes Foderingham on Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale, Chris Wilder and being Sheffield United number one

Four goalkeepers have featured between the sticks for Sheffield United in the Championship this season but Wes Foderingham now appears settled as the club's first choice.

The clean sheet kept by Aaron Ramsdale against Swansea City back in August proved to be his final contribution in a Blades shirt before moving to Arsenal and Michael Verrips managed just one disastrous league appearance against West Bromwich Albion.

Robin Olsen was seen as the answer to Sheffield United's goalkeeping dilemma but it was Foderingham that eventually provided the solution.

His scintillating form, however, has certainly not made him complacent and he was unwilling to describe himself as the club's number one in the pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Middlesbrough.

When asked if the shirt is his to lose and if he feels like the number one, he answered: "I get that question all the time, every time I come to do a press day I get that question! I don't like that question, to be honest.

"I feel it's a question for someone that's comfortable in their position and I don't feel you can ever be comfortable. There's always someone that wants your shirt, always someone that's working hard for your job and I've been in that position myself, trying to get the shirt off somebody else.

"Obviously, I've got the shirt at the moment, the gaffer's picking me every week so it's my job to make sure I perform well and stay there."

Foderingham's emergence at Bramall Lane has coincided with an upturn in fortunes at the club, although competition was drafted in during the January transfer window when Adam Davies joined from Stoke City.
