Celtic and Rangers ticket cut could leave St Johnstone looking SILLY as Chris Sutton 'doubts' home fans will step up

St Johnstone are the latest club to cut the away ticket allocations for Celtic and Rangers at McDiarmid Park.

The onus is now on the Perth team’s supporters to back that stance. If they don’t, it’ll be costly and it’ll look silly. Saints are the latest taking this measure and I have no problem with it, so long as the seats get filled. I understand that home clubs and fans don’t want their grounds filled by away supporters, and especially not those of Celtic and Rangers.

Hearts, Hibs, Kilmarnock and St Mirren, have all taken the decision in recent times and their reasoning is sound. But it only works for me if the seats taken away from visiting support are filled by locals. And that’s a huge job for the Saints. I was there at the opening match of the season when Craig Levein’s team entertained Aberdeen and there were gaps and spaces.

Hearts and Hibs don’t fill the home sections for the Old Firm games. Neither do Killie or St Mirren. I get the suggestion that making it a better experience for their own fans is what matters and it’s worth any lost revenue on the day for the benefits at other times of engaging your own folk.
