Chris Kane reiterates desire to remain at St Johnstone and would be "delighted" to sign new contract

Wednesday night’s goal hero Chris Kane has reiterated his desire to remain at St Johnstone.

The long-serving forward was given a short-term contract this season following his return from injury troubles.

He came off the bench midweek to net Saints a very valuable three points against St Mirren thanks to a dramatic stoppage time winner.

And afterwards he emphasised that McDiarmid Park is where he wants to be moving forward.

“My focus is staying fit and playing games, then I’m sure that stuff will take care of itself,” he explained.

“As long as I’m playing I’m happy because I had such a bad time over the past two years.

“Hopefully I don’t get anymore injuries and, the more I play, I can crack on.

“I’ve been at the club since I was 15 years old. I’m 29 now. I don’t really know anything else. It was 10 years since my debut recently. I was getting messages saying ‘how have you lasted 10 years!?’

“The manager has told me to stay fit. That is the main thing. If St Johnstone want to give me another contract, I would be delighted.”

Kane’s match-winning moment was a nervy one for those looking on. His initial penalty was saved but he bundled in the afters with 90+ minutes on the clock.

“I’m not sure if I’ve mis-hit it or just didn’t get the height I wanted,” he said of his spot-kick.

“But luckily I’ve managed to get on the end of the rebound to score.

“I normally score my penalties in training. So you don’t practice rebounds.

“I’m just glad I managed to keep my feet, because I was slipping as well.

“It all just happened so quickly. The goalkeeper even got a hand to the rebound.

“But the ball was in the back of the net and that was all that mattered.”

Kane was grateful to team-mates for allowing him to take the penalty.
