Chris Jericho teases WWE return amidst reports of expiring AEW contract

Former WWE star Chris Jericho has teased fans about a return to the company to avenge a famous old foe.

The AEW superstar, currently in the middle of a story that has seen the implosion of his Inner Circle faction, took to Twitter to hit back at his former WWE rival on the anniversary of one their most memorable segments together.

Cast your mind back to February 13, 2017, Jericho was riding high on Monday Night Raw alongside his best friend Kevin Owens and adding anyone he saw fit to his infamous ‘List of Jericho’. So much so, Y2J created his Festival of Friendship to celebrate his bond with WWE’s Universal Champion.

However, things took a downward turn when Owens presented Jericho with The List of KO, a list that just had Jericho’s own name on it, and it saw KO turn on his now former friend.

The moment remains one of the best segments in recent Raw history, and five years on WWE revelled in its anniversary by posting it on their social media account.

Not only did it lead to Owens changing his profile picture to an image from the ceremony, but then saw Jericho reply with a warning to his old buddy from Raw.

I haven’t forgotten Owens….you never know when you’ll see me again.

The pair’s break-up set up a United States Championship showdown at WrestleMania 33 that year, in a match widely reported that Vince McMahon had apparently said was ‘the worst in WrestleMania history’.

It’s unlikely the pair would lock horns anytime again soon, with Owens recently signing a new multi-year deal to stay in WWE and Jericho apparently triggering the extra year on his AEW contact, that now runs to January 2023.
