Chris Hamilton sent Hibs Scottish Cup message by Hearts kitman as Arbroath plan another chapter in fairytale season

Arbroath defender Chris Hamilton has been told to do his parent club Hearts proud this weekend against Hibs - by the Tynecastle kitman.

Dyed in the wool Jambo Gordon Paterson has been around the Gorgie club since 1992, long before Hamilton, 20, was born.

And with the defender travelling down to Oriam during the week for training while his part-time team-mates get on with day jobs, he's been given some pointed reminders.

His loan club are five points clear in Championship as Scottish football waits with baited breath to see if the Red Lichties can deliver a fairytale ending.

But next up are the Hibees in the Scottish Cup in a Gayfield clash that promises plenty.

And Hamilton told The Courier : "Being from Hearts maybe adds that wee bit but I want to win for Arbroath first and foremost.

"The kitman is a big Jambo, he’s been on at me.

"I’m still down there a few days a week with Hearts and, when I was in, he was saying to me: ‘mind and win on Sunday’ and things like that.

"I’ll try and do my best, but it will be for Arbroath."

Hamilton won't underestimate the task at hand as he knows Shaun Maloney's side can be a threat despite poor recent form.

Their extra-time win against Cove Rangers remains their only victory in 2022.

He added: "Hibs, even though they are struggling just now, are a top team with top players.

"It should be a good occasion for the club and fans."
