China 'blocks' broadcast of Premier League matches, including Leicester City vs Leeds United

This weekend’s Premier League matches – including Leicester City’s home clash with Leeds United – will not be broadcast in China because of a planned show of support for Ukraine.

As the global outcry towards Russia’s invasion continues, the English top-flight and its clubs will unite in a show of solidarity with Ukraine.

It will include captains wearing special armbands in Ukrainian colours, while stadium screens will display 'Football Stands Together' in front of the country's blue and yellow flag.

The Premier League has said it "wholeheartedly rejects Russia's actions".

It added: "We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted."

As a result, Chinese rights holders have told the Premier League they will not broadcast matches this weekend, reports the BBC.

China is a close ally of Vladimir Putin and the Russian regime.

The Premier League declined to comment when asked by the BBC about the Chinese refusal to show matches.

The Foxes host Leeds United in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
