Child rioter, 12, has court date postponed as his mum is on five-day Ibiza holiday

The sentencing of a 12-year-old boy, who was twice involved in mob violence last month, has been postponed after his mother left for a five-day sunshine break in Ibiza, it has been revealed in court.

The boy, who cannot be identified due to his age, admitted being part of a mob that attacked a bus outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Manchester on July 31. District Judge Joanne Hirst shared her astonishment at Manchester Magistrates' Court after the boy's mother chose to take a five-day holiday abroad while her son was due in court after admitting to two counts of violent disorder.

Judge Hirst decided to adjourn the sentencing for the two counts of violent disorder and issued a parental summons, requiring the mother to appear before the court when she passes sentence on September 11. Due to his age, the boy's identity cannot be disclosed.

She thanked the boy's uncle for accompanying his nephew to court in the absence of his mother, but added: "One day before the hearing we find out the mum has gone on holiday and is not with her son who played a greater part in the recent civil disorder than any adult or child I've seen coming through these courts.
