Chiefs storm to over 490k votes as final four teams confirmed for Carling Black Label Cup

Kaizer Chiefs amassed over 490 000 fan votes, more than any other DStv Premiership team, to seal a place at next month's Carling Black Label Cup.

The Premier Soccer League revealed in July that the Carling Black Label Cup had been extended to include four teams.

The one-day tournament was previously staged as a pre-season opener between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates but now will take place on Saturday, 12 November at FNB Stadium.

The four teams selected was decided by the South African football-loving fans.

Chiefs locked in 490 376 votes to finish top of the leaderboard, followed by rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, which was always going to be the case.

The fourth and final slot was up for grabs and AmaZulu edged Swallows by more than 30 000 votes to ensure a place at the once-off tournament.

Usuthu and the Brazilians will get proceedings underway before a Soweto derby clash between Chiefs and Pirates in the second encounter.

Prior to the final, there will be also be a third place penalty playoff between the losers of the first two matches.

The teams who did not make the cut will receive a cool R100 000, while Chiefs, Pirates, Sundowns and AmaZulu each get R200 000.

The winners of the tournament will bag R2 million.
