Chido Obi transfer: Man Utd, Arsenal head to court?

Two English Premier League giants, Manchester United and Arsenal could be heading for a collision course over the signing of free agent, Chido Obi Martin.

The Red Devils are bent on signing the wonderkid, but incoming reports from British Journalists, Christopher Michel revealed that the whole transfer saga is gradually becoming complicated and could be settled in court.

United are struggling to finalise a deal for Obi Martin because of “very complicated” legal issues.

The Athletic have previously reported that the two clubs have been in talks over an acceptable compensatory fee, as United cannot simply sign him on a free transfer.

Michel said Arsenal feels that Obi-Martin, a promising youngster in the Gunners’ academies, has joined the Red Devils in the right manner. However, he was available for free as his contract with the Gunners had already expired and Manchester United took interest.

The Athletic had reported earlier that Manchester United needed to pay the Gunners a fee due to the player’s age.

The 19-year-old’s transfer also had to go through the Premier League’s ratification process. He scored 32 goals and provided three assists in 24 games for Arsenal’s under-18 team last year.

The two clubs expected to conclude a deal without having to go through a juridical process but that is not the case at the moment.

Michel wrote on X, “Although Chido Obi Martin’s contract at #Arsenal has expired, I heard that #MUFC can’t just sign him on a free transfer.“Very complicated… He is therefore only training individually and has not yet been presented. Possibly this will go before a court.”

While Chido Obi-Martin waits for Manchester United clearance, he has been given a competitive fixture to look forward to.
