Chesterfield miss out on transfer deadline day signings ahead of Notts County clash

Chesterfield have been unable to add to their squad ahead of their showdown against Notts County at Meadow Lane this weekend.

Reports had claimed the Spireites had been keen on adding a winger and striker to the squad, but there were no arrivals confirmed before the 5pm deadline.

Chesterfield are currently chasing promotion to the Football League but suffered a surprise defeat in midweek when they lost at Altrincham.

Paul Cook's side are currently second in the table and are six points clear of the Magpies who do have a game in hand which is against relegated Dover Athletic.

Notts will be seeking to gain revenge for their 3-1 defeat at the Technique Stadium at the beginning of March in a game which saw them take the lead through Eli Sam before half-time.

But the Spireites hit back strongly after the break with two goals from Laurence Maguire and an Akwasi Asante penalty in stoppage time condemning head coach Ian Burchnall's side to defeat. A crowd of 10,000 is expected for the game at Meadow Lane this weekend.
