Chelsea vs Man City highlights and reaction as Palmer scores injury-time penalty in 4-4 thriller

Manchester City retained their place at the top of the Premier League this afternoon but only lead their rivals by a point as they shared an all-time classic 4-4 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Pep Guardiola's side have enjoyed an excellent run of five straight wins across all competitions since returning from the October international break. On Tuesday, they cruised past Swiss side BSC Young Boys in the Champions League, Erling Haaland's brace and a goal from Phil Foden handing them a 3-0 victory.

City were without John Stones for this afternoon's game after the defender suffered a recurrence of a muscle injury in the midweek win over Young Boys. But Manuel Akanji, who missed the European tie, was back fit and available. Nathan Ake missed the game with a new injury of his own.

Erling Haaland had given City the lead from the penalty spot after being controversially adjudged to have been pulled down by Marc Cucurella. Chelsea replied strongly with a quickfire double from Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling before Akanji's header sent the sides into the break level.

In the second half, City went ahead through Erling Haaland, and again through Rodri's deflected strike after Nicolas Jackson's equaliser. But in injury time, Cole Palmer stepped up and converted a penalty to share the points against his old side.
