Chelsea have sustained what could be a worrying injury blow ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup with Mason Mount having hobbled off with an injury against Plymouth Argyle.

The Blues midfielder started the clash against the League One outfit at Stamford Bridge only to be withdrawn in the 96th minute of the fourth-round tie with it having gone to extra-time.

He was eventually replaced by fellow midfielder Saul Niguez.

At the time of Mount's substitution, the scores were level after Macaulay Gillesphey and Cesar Azpilicueta had exchanged first-half strikes.

However, his withdrawal did not hamper Thomas Tuchel's men as they managed to finally edge ahead during the first-half of extra-time - Marcos Alonso finding the net.

His absence could be a considerable blow to Chelsea with the current European champions set to fly to Abu Dhabi after the game for the Club World Cup.

The academy graduate has once again been a key player for the Blues so far this season with seven goals and seven assists in all competitions so far.
