Chelsea star 'torn' on whether to stay at club after huge offer from Spain

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was in no mood to give any clues about his future away on international duty, with the Spaniard set to be torn over his future at Stamford Bridge.

The full-back is out of contract at the end of the season and Chelsea are currently unable to offer him a new deal, following the UK government’s decision to sanction Roman Abramovich.

While the Russian hopes to sell the club in the near future, there remains huge uncertainty over the direction of the Blues.

Even before the latest developments over the club’s owner, Azpilicueta had been considering his future in west London.

The 32-year-old wants a long-term deal but Chelsea are only prepared to offer him a one-year rolling contract, which he feels does not recognise his decade’s service to the Blues.

The defender is currently on international duty and the Spanish press had hoped to get an update on his future.

Barcelona – with their financial constraints – have been quick to sign players on free transfers over the last two years with the likes of Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joining the club.

The Catalans are willing to offer the defender a three-year deal to move to the Camp Nou but Azpilicueta was in no mood to talk about moving to Spain.

‘It’s not the right place and the right moment to discuss my future,’ said the Spaniard, when asked about leaving Chelsea.

Azpilicueta has won the lot with Chelsea since signing from Marseille in 2013 for a bargain fee of around £7.5million.

He was made club captain in 2019 following Gary Cahill’s departure and he has a deep affinity with supporters.
