Chelsea's Champions League clash on Wednesday night will be shown live on Russia state-owned television following a presidential decree from Vladimir Putin.
The Blues head to France to take on Lille in their last 16 tie having won the first-leg 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. The west Londoners are currently embroiled in uncertainty due to alleged links between Roman Abramovich and Putin, which has seen the billionaire sanctioned.
UEFA have not suspended their broadcast contracts in Russia despite the likes of the Premier League doing so which means Champions League can be shown in the country. Sporting bodies have made moves to distance themselves from Russia amid the invasion in Ukraine, but UEFA have not taken such steps.
The European governing body have banned Russian teams from their competitions and cancelled a lucrative sponsorship deal with Gazprom, the state-owned energy company. Despite that, Putin has made orders which means that all three of UEFA's club competitions, including the Champions League, will be shown on a Russia channel which is owned by Gazprom Media, as reports The Mail.
Chelsea will be aiming to join Liverpool and Manchester City in the last eight of the competition. Thomas Tuchel's side are defending champions having won the tournament for a second time last summer in Porto.
