Chelsea: Reece James scores comical own goal before Mason Mount's screamer
Reece James scored a comical own goal before Mason Mount won it with a stunner as Chelsea beat Club America 2-1 in Nevada.
Goals from Mount and Timo Werner spared James’ blushes as Thomas Tuchel’s side overcame their Mexican opponents in their latest pre-season friendly.
The Blues had gone ahead five minutes into the second half thanks to Timo Werner’s strike.
However, the scores were level just five minutes later thanks to James’ embarrassing gaffe.
The right-back received the ball just outside his own penalty area but, without looking, turned back towards his own goal and attempted to play the ball to goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
Unfortunately for James, Bettinelli had moved away from his goal to give him an angle to play the ball back.
It resulted in James passing the ball straight into the back of net for the equaliser.
Oh dear.
