Chelsea owner Todd Boehly rips up traditional policy ahead of triple contract offer

Chelsea are reportedly gearing up to offer seven-year contracts to Reece James, Mason Mount and Armando Broja.

The three players have established themselves in the Premier League after coming through Chelsea's academy. Albania international Broja is back in Thomas Tuchel's squad this season after impressing on loan at Southampton, while England stars James and Mount were a big part of the team which reached two cup finals last term.

Premier League clubs rarely offer players deals of that length. However, after adding a number of young talents to the Blues' squad over the summer, owner Todd Boehly is said to be ready to buck the trend.

According to The Mail, Boehly's "US-style" contract policy will apply to players under the age of 25. Not all of the deals will be as long as seven years, but the named trio are expected to be offered six-year terms with the option to extend by a further year.

Mount's deal could be the most urgent, with the midfielder out of contract in 2024. James' current deal expires one year after that, while Broja, the youngest of the trio, is under contract until 2026.

Chelsea have already handed long-term deals to two of their younger signings this summer. 24-year-old left-back Marc Cucurella and teenage midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka have both put pen to paper on six-year deals, while Raheem Sterling - who turns 28 later this year - agreed a five-year deal after joining from Manchester City.

Sterling and centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly were the only two senior signings made by Chelsea in July, but they have made a number of new additions since. As well as Cucurella and Chukwuemeka, United States under-20 goalkeeper Gaga Slonina has joined from Chicago Fire - also on a six-year contract.
