Chelsea icon Frank Lampard has suggested that the ruthless nature of the Premier League contributed to his downfall at Stamford Bridge.
The former midfielder was sacked by the Blues in January last year following an inconsistent run of form and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Lampard was in charge for just 18 months having originally penned a three-year deal and managed to leave the Blues into the Champions League in his first season besides a transfer embargo.
Now over a year down the line after his sacking, Lampard has been left to reflect on what led to him leaving the club and has hinted that the need for success in the Premier League could lead to him never being comfortable in a job.
Speaking with Soccer AM he said: “It’s not so much just mistakes, I think the important thing is reflecting across the board and with Chelsea, at first, there was this feeling of what I could have done, what should I have done differently, could I have dealt with that situation differently.
“As a manager, there will always be those whether you’re successful or not because there are so many things that happen.
“You’ve got a squad of 20-plus players that all want to play. You’ve got things that happen within that. You’ve got tactics, environment, lots of things.
“I don’t think anybody does that job perfectly, it’s just the best ones and the best ones do it better than the others.
