Chelsea injury round-up and potential return dates including James and Loftus-Cheek

Chelsea make a return to action against Plymouth Argyle of League One in the FA Cup Fourth Round following the winter break.

The hosts will be hoping to ease into Round Five and produce a similar performance to the one which dismantled non-league Chesterfield 5-1 in the previous round.

However, Argyle will provide a tougher test and Chelsea may have to put out a stronger team this time around, although it can be expected that there will still be a few changes made.

And the Blues have had the past two weeks to get some of their players back to full fitness, including the likes of Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah.

Here is the current state of play at Stamford Bridge, including the potential return dates for those set to miss out on Saturday.

It has been revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is recovering from a minor injury ahead of this weekend’s clash with Plymouth.

The midfielder supposedly has a knock and has not been pictured in Chelsea training this week.

It is clear that the injury is not a serious one, but the 26-year-old will miss this weekend’s FA Cup game, although it is hoped he will return for the Club World Cup next week.

Defender Reece James is nearing a comeback from injury but this weekend will come too early for him.

The right-back sustained a hamstring injury during the draw with Brighton at the end of last year, meaning he has not played since December 29.

Speaking ahead of the Plymouth game, Tuchel said: "He's not in team training yet. After this couple of weeks, he needs also some time in team training to get rhythm and confidence back."
