Chelsea icon points out Mason Mount to Manchester United transfer 'mistake

Chelsea legend William Gallas is adamant his former club made a mistake by selling Mason Mount to Manchester United in the summer, despite his poor form.

Mount was earmarked as a player who would likely stay at Chelsea for the remainder of his career having come through the ranks at Cobham and reaching the first team. However, his final season at the club was littered with disappointments and it became apparent the player did not see a future at Stamford Bridge.

Sensing an opportunity, Erik ten Hag chose to snap up the 24-year-old in the summer for a fee of £60m. Since his arrival in the northwest, things have not gone smoothly for Mount.

Poor form from himself and his teammates have coincided with a spell on the sidelines with injury. After 11 appearances as a Red, Mount has only managed to register one assist and is in a real battle to earn himself a place in the England squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

Despite all of this, Gallas told Lord Ping Chelsea should have done more to keep Mount at the club and compared the situation to Trevoh Chalobah wanting to leave the Blues. He explained: "In my opinion, Chalobah leaving Chelsea wouldn't be a mistake.

"He's played a lot of games for Chelsea, but he had the chance to cement himself in the starting XI, and I don't think he gave what the board or manager would have expected. That's why he's been in and out of the starting XI.

"Perhaps Chalobah doesn't have the quality for a club like Chelsea, and the club letting him go would be a completely different context to someone like Mason Mount. I think people understand why Mount left, even if
