Chelsea have now 'increased bid' for 'phenomenal' £50m star at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have increased their bid for Everton winger Anthony Gordon, but the Stamford Bridge club are still short of their Premier League rivals’ valuation, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Blues have made an unbeaten start to the season, having beaten Gordon’s current employers and drawn with Tottenham Hotspur, but head coach Thomas Tuchel could strengthen his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Chelsea failed with their opening gambit for Gordon as they saw a £40million bid turned down by Everton.

Undeterred, the west Londoners returned to Goodison Park with a £45million proposal, but the Toffees were still unwilling to sanction the 21-year-old’s departure.

Although it is understood that Everton value Gordon upwards of £50million and are keen to hold onto him, Chelsea may have secured a boost in their pursuit.

That is because the Toffees’ academy product reportedly wants to complete a switch to Stamford Bridge and is hopeful of an agreement being reached before the transfer window slams shut.

But Chelsea are not Gordon’s only suitors as Newcastle United have previously failed with a £35million bid and are set to make a fresh approach.

Jacobs understands that Chelsea have increased their initial £40million offer for Gordon as they attempt to get a deal over the line.

However, the journalist believes the Blues have still failed to reach a price which would result in Everton sanctioning the wide-man’s exit.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea have come in with a bid, initially, of around £40million.

“They’ve upped that a little bit since, as I understand it, but they’re still short of the £50million valuation.”
