Chelsea: Fresh Harry Maguire update emerges at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are not interested in signing Harry Maguire, nor have they enquired about his services, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Reports emerged last week that the Blues were keen on offering the England international a route out of Old Trafford, but Phillips has denied those claims.

Chelsea are actively pursuing a deal for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana after having three bids rejected for the Frenchman.

But with less than seven days remaining until the window closes, the Stamford Bridge club might have to look at other central defender targets if they don’t end up paying Leicester’s asking price.

The Daily Mail claimed that one of those was Maguire, with Chelsea reportedly making an enquiry for the 29-year-old, who was dropped by Erik ten Hag for the victory over Liverpool on Monday.

Maguire has endured a tricky 18 months at Manchester United, which has been riddled by below-par performances, which ultimately led to him losing his place in the side against their fierce rivals.

With Chelsea trying to replace the likes of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, he believes that Maguire simply isn’t on the club’s radar right now.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m told there’s nothing in that, in terms of interest or any enquiries, nothing has happened there.”

Despite seeing their latest offer of £70m knocked back for the young defender, the Blues do appear to be moving ever closer to securing his services.

That’s because Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers revealed on Tuesday that Fofana is currently training with the club’s Under-23s after missing a training session, which suggests that his head has been turned and he’s desperate to sign for Chelsea.
