Chelsea could be 'dark horse' for £83m 'special talent' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea could be ‘dark horses’ in the race to sign midfielder Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund thanks to the ambition of co-owner Todd Boehly, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Blues splashed more than £250 million on transfers in the summer window but they appear to be ready to reinvest heavily once again going forward.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are the latest team to enter the race for the 19-year-old’s signature next summer.

The report adds that Dortmund value their prized asset – who has previously been described as a ‘special talent’ – at around £130 million and Boehly believes his club can catch up with their competitors in the race for his signature.

However, The Sun report that Dortmund could accept a fee of around £83 million but only if it is paid up front.

Liverpool are understood to be making progress in their pursuit of the England international and hope to agree a deal with the Bundesliga outfit prior to the 2023 summer transfer window opening.

Real Madrid are putting plans in place to sign Bellingham, according to 90Min, adding that the player himself is yet to make a decision on his future.

Meanwhile, Manchester City ace Erling Haaland has told the former Birmingham City man to join him at the Etihad.

Jacobs understands that the Blues are behind their rivals when it comes to the race for Bellingham’s signature.

However, the reporter adds that the past ambition of Boehly could yet prove key and offer the west Londoners a glimmer of hope.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea haven’t done anything yet with their interests. They’re behind their rivals, but their ambition, specifically, is what may make them a dark horse in the context of the race for Jude Bellingham.”
